brow TINTING vs STAINING

Brow tinting or staining is the process of applying a semi-permanent dye to enhance, shape, and define your brows. Most brows are filled with soft and fine vellus hair that, when dyed, creates a fuller, thicker brow instantly. By changing your brow color, it can add depth, dimension and give the illusion of length to the end of a brow, where our hairs tend to be lighter and finer. Richer tones will help to frame your eyes, offering a bolder look.

Pairing perfectly with Brow Lamination, this can be the best solution as it helps to fill in the sparse areas and define the brow shape, while creating the illusion of fullness. Brow dye will very temporarily stain your skin, so your brows will look like they've been filled in just after treatment and can be repeated 4-6 weeks. Please visit "FAQ" to learn more.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

A contraindication is a condition or factor that increases the risks involved in a treatment. It is important to prevent further harm, cross-contamination and infection for both the client and artist.

PLEASE REFRAIN IF YOU ANY OF THE FOLLOWING CONTRAINDICATIONS:

× Under 18 years old
× Allergies to dyes
× Alcohol or caffeine (please refrain 24 hours before your appointment)
× Botox, waxing or threading (must wait 2 weeks)
× Cataracts/glaucoma
× Cancer or chemotherapy in last 6 months
× Cosmetic tattoos or eye surgery (must wait 6 weeks)
× Eye infections or a degenerative eye disease

Expectations

As a brow specialist, I ensure that the correct colors and styles are chosen for you. Note that your prep is very important since this sets up the foundation for your new brows and how it adheres to the hairs. Results are dependent on how much hairs you have. Dry, flaky skin may lead to patchy pigment.

DURING:

Expect the procedure to be more or less than ~30 minutes. Total time depends on how the hairs react.

When you arrive, we will assess your brow hair health and have a quick consultation to discuss expectations, maintenance and fill out paperwork.

We begin the service by shaping and tweezing unwanted hair. Then the chosen brow dye is applied in a thick consistency. How long and many layers the dye is left on depends on the shade and coarseness of your hair. Less time is required for people with lighter hair, and longer time for those with darker, thicker brows.

AFTER:

The great thing about brow tinting is having little to no maintenance! Although immediately after your service, your brows may seem darker than anticipated. This will fade to a more natural color after the first day, and it is best not to touch the treated area as this will weaken the tint from the natural oils on our fingers.

Keep in mind that your aftercare makes 70% of the results! Please follow your aftercare instructions carefully as this will prolong the life of your brow tint.

prep

Please wash your face and hair before your appointment.

No exfoliating, tweezing, waxing, or threading your brows 24 hours before.

Gentle exfoliation can help the dye stay longer as this gives a smooth base.

aftercare

Tinting your brows may look darker the first day, however, please note this is an important step of the process as the dye continues to oxidize on the skin and settle into its finished shade. The effects of the tint will gradually fade as hair grows out and can be repeated 4-6 weeks.

24 HOURS: Do not wet or apply any makeup/product around the brow area.

2+ DAYS: Apply small dab of serum or castor oil daily to nourish and promote hair growth (optional).

Things to avoid:
× Over-touching your brows. The natural oils on our fingers may clog pores or cause your tint to fade faster
× Strong sunlight/UV light
× Exfoliating, anti-aging products or properties containing AHA’s or other chemical exfoliants

BROW TINTING FAQ

  • Professional brow tints usually last 3-4 weeks while brow stains lasts up to 6 weeks. How long your brow tint will last depends on your skin's pH, aftercare and lifestyle. Treatment can be repeated 4-6 weeks, but oilier skin may need retouching sooner.

  • Although it’s not a problem to get your eyebrows wet, you should try to avoid washing for at least 24 hours. Try to avoid excessive touching or rubbing. Chlorine can also shorten the wear of your tint, so be wary if you’re a regular swimmer.

  • We get it, brushing your freshly shaped brows with a spoolie brush is very satisfying but beware! Too much brushing can actually fade your tint and contribute to hairs falling out quicker than they should. That’s why it’s best to brush them into place and then apply a brow gel to set them all day. Opting for a tinted brow gel also helps to add a slick of color when you’re due for your next tint appointment.

  • 24 hours after your treatment, applying sunscreen daily will help protect against UV and significant fading. Avoid exfoliants, anti-aging formulas or properties containing AHA’s or other chemical exfoliants.
